Types of Gifts
In-Kind Contributions
Making an impact through giving is not restricted to cash gifts. An excellent way to help the University of Mobile is to make a contribution of goods or other appreciated assets. These may include:
- equipment
- supplies
- automobiles
- artwork
- securities (stocks and bonds)
- oil, gas and mineral interests
- real-estate
When you make an in-kind contribution, you may be supplying just the item needed to meet a critical need, or providing the university with the ability to resell the item for much needed funds, while possibly realizing a substantial tax benefit.
As with any contribution, the tax deductibility of a gift is subject to U.S. law as defined by The Internal Revenue Service. IRS Publication 526 outlines what types of donations can be deducted and how to claim a deduction. IRS Publication 561 explains how to determine the fair market value of your donation.
The University of Mobile reserves the right to decline any gift in accordance with its gift acceptance policy. Please call the Office of Development at 251.442.2226 or 800.WIN.RAMS with any questions.
